New Vaccine Funding for Children Under 5

Starting 1 September 2025, the meningococcal B vaccine (Bexsero) will be fully funded for all children under 5 years of age in New Zealand—no prescription cost involved. This follows Pharmac’s decision to widen access to better protect children from invasive meningococcal disease, especially during their most vulnerable years.

⚠️ Note: Your child must be eligible for publicly funded healthcare in New Zealand to receive the vaccine at no cost.

What About the Meningococcal ACYW Vaccine?

We recommend self-funding the ACYW vaccine to provide your child with broader protection against meningococcal strains A, C, Y, and W — which are not covered by the Bexsero vaccine alone.
